6.3.11 Ocean beach, Cradle Mountain no dresses just nature
Today started with a great breakfast and a bit of sadness to leave Strahan.   Wolfgang said no worries stay with us.
 ocean beach

We had booked for Cradle Mountain and wanted to get going but drove for a last look at this wonderful natural area to ocean beach what a view, mile upon mile of white sand flat, easy walking and dunes stretching into the distance with the mountains even further away.

Zeehan
The drive to Cradle Mountain is great, lots of different types of eucalyptus and pines, giving way to grasses and spectacular vistas.   Thankfully not such a long drive today we stopped en route in Zeehan but totally closed as Sunday.

Cradle Mountain lodge
There are three words I just love to hear…………..you’ve been upgraded………. And so on arrival here is the wild wilderness of Tasmania we are given an spa chalet on our arrive we have a little Jacuzzi a log fire, a DVC/CD player complete with a Cradle mountain CD and little sun-trap terrace  Wonderful. On a practical note we are also within a few minutes of the little guest laundry, which believe me when you’re away for three months is of great importance.

CRADLE MOUNTAIN

We walked amongst the ancient trees some 3,000 years old amazing, then on the way to the lodge at sunset we saw up close and personal our first marsupial.

We were transfixed he didn’t move or show any fear just carried on eating in his own time and then hopped off to the next grazing.

We had a great steak but couldn’t wait to get outside and see if we could see more and of course the elusive devil.  No devils but this little chap allowed me within two feet.

It’s early to bed here and early to rise and off to Launceston tomorrow but we are going to try and see more wildlife at dawn.
